Castroni Ginger Ground
Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is a herbaceous plant of the Zingiberaceae (the same family as cardamom) native of the Far East. It is a perennial tropical plant and its roots are used for therapeutic and culinary purpose. You can find both fresh or dehydrated or dried and ground into powder.
Its aroma is very unique with soft notes of lemon and a fresh and spicy taste.
It is most widely used in Asian cuisine but also in northern Europe where it is particularly used to perfume cakes and biscuits. The great modern cooks love to use it in boiled meat. It goes well with other spices like cardamom, nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon. Add a tip of ginger powder to tea or herbal tea has excellent digestive effects.
In Asia, ginger has always been known and appreciated for its beneficial properties. Ginger has, in fact, anti-emetics and anti-nausea effects, in cases of sea sickness and pregnancy. It lowers the level of cholesterol, stimulates digestion, balancing the bacterial flora. Its diaphoretic action helps to fight colds and flu.
