Castroni Ground Cumin
The cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.), also known as Roman cumin, is a herbaceous plant native to the Mediterranean basin, now spread also in the American continent. The dried seeds of the plant, similar to those of anise and fennel, are used whole or ground. Its slightly acrid and very intense aroma, is often used in North African and Middle Eastern cuisine to season vegetables, rice, meatballs, soups, and lamb tajine. In India it is also a basic ingredient mixture for curry and garam masala. Cumin seeds are also used in the preparation of breads and liquors. It is a good source of iron and has beneficial properties for the digestive system.
