The history of liquors based on cocaine leaves, in Italy, originates around 1866, when the first infusion of wine leaves and untreated leaves was created by a guy named Mariani in Bologna. The effects where immediately electrifying for the consumers of the time but, with the passing of the years, the rules have changed and today the coke leaves are imported from Bolivia, under the strict control of the Finance Police. They are then infused and placed in stills for the distillation. The distillation had the aim of erasing the narcotic effect in the leaves. Amongst the other used herbs we have lemon balm, nettle and a small dose of absence to which then the distillate is added.
